Hello,

My name is the Marvelous Patric, and Hype is my baby. Hype is the new on-going comic series here at marvelouspatric.com As it's on-going, I thought I'd do some comments at the beginning, instead of the end like Time Trippers.

First of all, what is Hype? Hype is about a young super-hero who is the first super-hero ever on his Earth. This is a purely super-hero comic. There are heroes and villains and aliens and alternate realities and... well, you know... the cool stuff!

So, that's the what, but what about the how? Hype is going to be different from Time Trippers in every respect. It's going to be good. There is an overall story, with subplots, and a theme and everything, but at the same time, it's got some fun stuff too. I'm somewhat modeling Hype's structure on that of a well written tv drama... like Buffy. The first major story arc is what I consider to be a season. Now, this first season, while one story arc, also has bits and pieces of subplots that come into play in later seasons. Also, like tv, I'm posting comics in short series that consist of mini-arcs. For instance, for the next three weeks, there will be a new comic every saturday. Then, there will be a small break, and the fourth will be posted. Followed by another beak and the next four will be posted.. and so forth.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank some people who have, in some way or another, been instrumental, or at least around for, Hype's conception, creation, and exploration. First and foremost, I need to thank Cody Brown, who, if I am the father of Hype, he's the crazy uncle. A lot of the visual designs seen in Hype are based on, in some way or another, drawings Cody had done of Hype back when I created him when we were in highschool. The next person I need to thank is Peter Gross. Peter has been my teacher and advisor for three years at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. He would constantly make me furious. Not at him, but, rather, at myself because he would state such an obvious flaw or push me harder that I was mad I wasn't doing it already. Also, he has given me the creative freedom to explore these ideas in class, and I know Hype would totally blow without his input. Thanks to my family, for all their support. Thanks go to all the folks in the Comic Illustration program at MCAD. Special thanks, in that lovely group of people, go to Frenchy, Barb, Critiquie Buddy Tim, and former students Rachel, Brian, Drew, and Jill. Arms load of thanks for the insights and help from Gene Ha. Simple things can be easily missed just because you want to make something look kind of neat. And of course, uber-thanks to Scott McCloud, whose books got me really interested in what comics could do, whose website inspired me to try my comics on the web, and whose occasional e-mails and postings at the CYOC board helped out more than he could imagine. Thank you to everybody, and I know I missed someone somewhere... like Matt from 5eX, who wrote and recorded the theme music for Hype, which, wasn't used for this series of comics, but will be used for the next big story arc. Thanks everyone!

Stay Peachy!

The Marvelous Patric
